Frequently asked questions
Every answer here describes what the platform does today. Where something is not built yet, the answer says so.
What is E-Sadaqah?
A platform for giving Sadaqah, Zakat and the obligations that have to be worked out rather than guessed — Zakat al-Fitr, Fidya, Kaffarah and Waqf. Each kind of giving is held in its own fund, spent only on what it was given for, and receipted so it can be checked afterwards.
Do I need an account to give?
No. Giving does not require an account, and none is created for you. You give, you receive a receipt, and the receipt is the record.
Donor accounts — a place to see everything you have given, your receipts and your yearly summary — are planned but not built yet.
Which payment methods can I use?
None yet. No payment provider is connected to this platform, so nothing here can take money at the moment. You can still work out what you owe and record what you intend to give, and we will tell you how to pay.
Card and bank transfer open together once the charity's registration with a payment provider is complete.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes, once the money has actually arrived. Nothing is receipted on the strength of a payment having been started — a receipt here means the gift was received, not that it was attempted.
Every receipt carries a number. Anyone you show it to can confirm it is genuine from that number alone, and doing so reveals nothing about you.
How does the Zakat calculator work?
You enter the assets you hold, it measures them against the current nisab threshold, asks whether you have held them for the full lunar year, and shows the whole calculation line by line before any figure is given to you.
It follows published rules that have been approved before being used, and it tells you which assets it counted and which it did not. It is an estimate to help you give, not a ruling.
Can I make a recurring donation?
Not yet. Recurring giving needs a card mandate held on your behalf, and that depends on the same payment provider that card payment does. It opens at the same time.
When it does, you will be able to pause or stop it yourself, without having to ask anyone.
Which kinds of giving can I make?
Sadaqah, Zakat, Zakat al-Fitr, Fidya, Kaffarah, Waqf, Emergency Relief, and a general fund used where the need is greatest.
They are not variations on one form. Sadaqah takes an amount; Zakat al-Fitr and Fidya are worked out from a number of people or days; Waqf is an endowment defined by the conditions set on it.
Is Zakat al-Fitr the same as Zakat?
No, and they are kept apart on purpose. Zakat is a yearly obligation on wealth you have held for a lunar year. Zakat al-Fitr is a fixed amount for each member of a household, given before the Eid prayer.
The asset calculator is for Zakat only. Zakat al-Fitr has its own page, with its own amount and its own timing.
How can I see what my giving achieved?
Each cause shows what it has raised against what it set out to raise. When the work has been done and the spending accounted for, a report is published on the impact page.
Reports are published after the work, not after the collection. If nothing appears there yet, it is because nothing has reached that stage.
How can a Masjid or Islamic organisation register?
By writing to us. An organisation is checked against its registration and its own documents before it can receive anything, and until that check is finished it is not shown as verified and no money is credited to it.
The online registration form has not been built yet, so for now we take the details directly.
How is my personal information protected?
We ask for as little as the gift requires, and you can give without an account at all. Your details are never shown on a public page, and verifying a receipt reveals nothing about the person who gave it.
What we hold, why we hold it and how to ask us to delete it are set out on the privacy page.
Can I give on someone else's behalf?
Yes. The giving form lets you record who the gift is on behalf of, and that name appears on the receipt. You can also give anonymously, in which case no name is shown anywhere.
Still unanswered?
Ask us directly. A question that reaches us twice usually ends up on this page.
