Step 1 of 3

What would you like to give?

This comes first because it decides what happens next. Some kinds of giving are worked out from a number of people or days rather than an amount.

  • Zakat زكاة The yearly obligation on wealth held for a full lunar year.
  • Zakat al-Fitr زكاة الفطر A fixed amount for each member of the household, before the Eid prayer. Worked out from a number
  • Fidya فدية For fasts that cannot be made up — one person fed for each missed day. Worked out from a number
  • Kaffarah كفارة Expiation for a deliberately broken fast or a broken oath. Worked out from a number
  • Waqf وقف An endowment: the capital is preserved and only its returns are spent. Set up with a deed
  • Sadaqah صدقة Voluntary charity, given at any time and for any good purpose.
  • Emergency Relief Relief for a declared emergency.
  • General Used wherever the need is greatest.

Sadaqah, Zakat and the obligations that are worked out rather than guessed. Each kind of giving is kept in its own fund for the purpose it was given, and every gift is receipted so it can be checked afterwards.
